R-rated Pot Noodle Ad?

An excerpt from “Complaints over ‘offensive’ Pot Noodle ad” by Deborah Condon.

“A television advertisement for Pot Noodle has been accused of being sexually offensive, violent and discriminating against women, the Advertising Standards Authority for Ireland (ASAI) has said.”

“The ad begins with a couple eating sandwiches. The man is seen making a secret phone call and then visiting a ‘red light’ district in search of Pot Noodles. He approaches a number of women and in each case, is slapped on the face when he asks for the product.”

“He enters a shop and is told by the female assistant to meet her around the back, where both are then seen enjoying Pot Noodles.”

Noodle Maker to Film TV Ad in Space

Excerpt from AP news posted Sep. 21, 2005 by Han Greimel:

“Starting next month, Nissin Food Products Co. will film a promotional spot on the International Space Station for Cup Noodle, featuring a sales pitch by a hungry Russian cosmonaut.”

Katrina: When hell breaks …

An excerpt from “A City’s Open Wounds,” by Scott Gold - Times Staff Writer, posted Fri Sep. 2 2005:

“In the next two days, the water rose — to ankles, to knees and, finally, to their chins. They made themselves a fort, stacking a sofa on top of two end tables, a futon on top of the sofa and a rubber mattress on top of the futon. The ceiling was a foot from their face when they climbed up the furniture.

Snakes came. Dead squirrels floated by. Love tried to rescue the neighbor’s dog that was chained to a nearby fence, but the animal tried to bite him. The dog died, and his carcass, draped over the fence under the blazing sun, began to rot. A body was also drifting nearby. The smell became unbearable.

On Thursday, fire ants floated in and attacked Love and Burbin, crawling onto their legs, into their hair. That was the last straw. They grabbed their last pack of hot dogs and a package of dry ramen noodles and made a run for it, …”

Instant Noodles in Space

An excerpt from “Instant noodles set to make their space debut” by Yoshikazu Tsuno, posted July 27 2005:

“After conquering Earth, instant noodles have now headed into space with Japanese astronaut Soichi Noguchi, who brought a new zero-gravity version aboard the American shuttle Discovery.

Nissin Food, whose invention of instant noodles sparked a 65-billion-pack-a-year global industry, developed a special ball-shaped version of the usually dangling noodle that space travellers can eat easily with a fork.”

Noodle Spat

An excerpt from ” Noodle spat delays flight in Thailand’ posted August 08 2005.

“Chirayu Hoontrakul, 35, a car rental agent, was chatting on her cellphone to a potential customer on Sunday afternoon during the takeoff of AirAsia flight FD3015 from Bangkok to Phuket, prompting stewardess Monthicha Kuawong, 30, to tell her to turn the device off for safety reasons, said the Daily News newspaper.

A peeved Chirayu ordered a bowl of instant noodles from Monthicha 15 minutes after takeoff and then threw the hot meal in the hostess’ face and pummelled her twice on the neck.”

Tsunami Disaster Relief

An excerpt from “Tsunami Horrors: Disease, Crocs,” CBS News, Dec. 30 2004:

“Food drops began along the coast, mostly of instant noodles and medicines, with some of the areas “hard to reach because they are surrounded by cliffs,” said Budi Aditutro, head of the government’s relief team.

Government institutions in Aceh province, the territory on Sumatra’s northern tip, have ceased to function and basic supplies such as fuel have almost run out, forcing even ambulances to ration gasoline.

On the streets of Banda Aceh, the provincial capital, fights have broken out over packets of noodles dropped from military vehicles.”

South Korean Aids North

An Excerpt from “South Korean aid ship heads for North” Taipei Times - Thursday, Apr 29, 2005:

“Officials said the ship was carrying 100,000 instant noodle meals, water, blankets, clothing, first aid kits, medicine and medical instruments from the government. A second ship carrying charity aid was scheduled to leave later in the day.

The North has accepted both shipments. South Korea took steps yesterday towards fulfilling Pyongyang’s main request, with the government holding discussions with political parties.”
