Chow Mein - (Garlic) Shrimp
September 10th, 2005

Nissin Quick & Easy Chow Mein - (Garlic) Shrimp Flavored, microwaveable.
Chow mein is a generic term for a chinese style dish of stir-fried noodles, of which there are many varieties. The garlic shrimp flavor is one of my favorite, it tasted like Italian garlic shrimp linguine.
The plastic serving tray is microwaveable but the cover is not, however I find that it tasted much better if you covered it while cooking. I put the cover upside down so that the steam can escape. As prepared, the noodles came out the way I liked it, steaming hot and al dente. It looks very appealing with a few tiny pink shrimps, red bell pepper and dark green parsley. The taste and aroma was almost irresistible to me, a very satisfying bargain of a meal.
After microwaving don’t be afraid of the water that still remains, the seasonings get more even with the noodles on the wet side and the flavoring is more than adequate. In fact, I prefer it on the wet side for this entree and add water just above the line before microwaving.
Like on most packagings, it always look better than what you actually get, but for the price you can’t complain.
Suggested Cooking Directions (Better)
- Open lid, take outtake out all 3 packets.
- Pour content of dry shrimp packet around the sides of noodles and add water to the inside line - about 3/4 cup.
- Place lid upside down squarely over tray and cook in microwave for 6 minutes.
- (Caution: stream will be hot) Add contents of powder and liquid seasoning packets on noodles, stir well and serve.

This item had changed package since the last time I tried it. It was labeled prior as Garlic Shrimp Chow Mein. The cooking direction then was to add 1 cup of water and cook 5-6 minutes without having to turn the noodles over after 3 minutes. I had accidentally put the cover on while cooking and the cover warped like a popcorn bag, but the noodles came out delicious!

While this dish was good, it was not at all what I was expecting. To me, this does not taste like any ramen I’ve ever had before. This actually tastes like garlic & shrimp pasta primavera, not ramen. After my initial taste, I actually treated this one like pasta primavera and added some yellow squash and zuccini and grated cheese and it was great! Just don’t expect ramen soup when eating this one.

These are the best noodles I’ve ever tasted. Walmart carried them for a short period of time I tried them and I liked them so much I went back to get more and they were all gone and they never stocked them back on the shelves. I had to search and search and I found the chicken flavor at Walgreens it’s not as good. So I searched on line and I found them here I’ll be ordering them here from now on.
