Sogokimyun Beef Flavor Ramen

Samyang Sogokimyun

At 4.2 oz., it makes a satisfying bowl of good noodles. As with all Samyang noodles, they have a good chewy texture. The taste reminded me of the spicy Korean BBQ sauce used in popular hotpot-style cuisine. Being not too spicy hot, you can taste the garlic beef flavor and a decent note of vegetables.

Wu Mu Spicy Tomato Ramen

Ramen noodles made with tomato to promote the health benefit of lycopene, a substance found particualarly in tomato and to boost, the ramen is air-dried too. There are separate noodles and flavor packets to make 4 individual servings, though the noodles are not individually wrapped.

The noodles have a good chewy bite and the rich soup was spicy hot with a good note of tomato, along with other vegetables. In the soup is an ingredient commonly called Jew’s Ear, which is a popular tree jelly fungi that has a crunchy jelly-like texture almost like seaweed, but it’s shredded so finely that I wouldn’t have noticed it if it wasn’t listed.

Wu Mu Dr Noodle Beef Tomato Ramen

It’s a Dr Noodle Beef Tomato Ramen, Wu Mu brand. Just what the doctor ordered, I guessed. It’s banking on the health benefit of lycopene, a substance found particualarly in tomato and to boost, the ramen is air-dried too. There are separate noodles and flavor packets to make 4 individual servings, though the noodles are not individually wrapped.

So, does it measures up? Despite the photo of the cooked noodles being colored, the noodles were practically white on cooking and they didn’t have much color before either. That aside the noodles weren’t too bad and had a good chewy bite to it. The soup was a hot spicy tomato beef flavor that’s pretty decent, though the tomato flavor was light. An interesting note is the crunchy pickle vegetables which I liked and is the first time I had them in instant ramen. While the top of the soup looked oily, as a whole there’s only 9% DV from fat.

package

It’s a tri-packs of Pocky’s wheat cracker stick snack topped with green tea flavored mousse cream, each pack has five sticks.

The cream coat is pretty thick with buttery smooth texture and the green tea flavor is mixed with a cream coffee taste and a note of chocolate. It has a nice green tea aftertaste and not very sweet, it’s a cool gentle flavor.

Tom-Yum Seafood

Tom-Yum Seafood

Tom yum is a hot and sour piquant soup common throughout Thailand, a unique flavor that’s quite popular here too.

It’s a spicy sour garlicy seafood flavor that taste very limy with a note of aromatic basil, very flavorful with a good seafood aftertaste. The noodles are thin and resilient, staying chewy very well in hot water. It’s also seasoned, so they are tasty just snacking on dry!

Hot & Spicy “Fresh” Udon

Hot & Spicy Udon

Sakura Noodle manufactures fresh instant “Udon” (Japanese flour-based noodles) under the Chikara brand. It’s a ~1/2 pound package!

This hot & spicy flavor one is tasty enough to eat on its own, though it really should have something to go with these big noodles. It’s a decent spicy soy sauce and garlic beef flavor. Add a hard boiled egg, vegetables and a bit more hot spices and its would make a great meal.

Chikara Chicken Flavor Udon

Sakura Noodle manufactures fresh instant “Udon” (Japanese flour-based noodles) under the Chikara brand. It comes in six soup flavors.

Good Udon noodles can’t be judged by label alone and these fresh instant one is not as good as Nong Shim’s, however it’s less than half the price. The chicken flavor is ok but relatively mild. That’s not a problem, as the hearty portion of noodles makes a rather tasty starter recipe with the addition of toppings and spices as seen in second half of the image below with cilantro, mint and flavored chili oil added.

Instant Chand Noodles - Chicken Flavor

January 13th, 2006

2 1/2 Stars

Instant Chand Noodles (pho) is a clear broth with small flat rice noodles. Its delicate chicken (ga) taste come from a light chicken flavor seasoning oil.

The taste is light for chicken flavor broth, with a delicate note of herbal spices. I like to let the rice noodles expand longer than 3 minutes so it fills in the broth, but it’s get a little flimsy though.

Sutah Ramen

Packaged in newer foil-type bag, Sutah’s ramen has a nice gummy texture from the addition of potato starch with wheat flour. It has a rich spicy beef and vegetable broth that’s quite balanced, so that all the flavors come out.

MAMA Hot & Spicy Flavor Instant Noodle

Buy in Ramen & Snack Shop »

Even with an updated look in a foil type package, it seems to lack a bit of originality - another Hot & Spicy. It’s so plain, but it’s virtually all English with good labeling!

The wheat-tapioca based noodles are thicker than regular ramen and have a chewiness much like korean instant noodles. Its medium spicy broth is slightly thickened with miso, looked a bit like tomato juice. Kind of skimpy on the vegetable flakes (the dark specks in the picture below are Shiitake mushroom), but you get what you pay for. The taste is very well seasoned, so be conservative about drinking the soup.

Six Fortune Shrimp Flavor Instant Noodle Soup

Six Fortune’s air-dried line of low-fat instant noodles in shrimp flavor. The ramen cooks in 4 minutes. The seasoning has a very shrimpy aroma and taste from real powder shrimp (including shell) in the broth.

This is not a ramen to be enjoyed alone, the overall taste is kind of bare. However, I could definitely use it in another recipe for its decent shrimp flavor.

Instant Porridge Chicken Flavor

Chao Ga An Lien

Chao Ga is a chicken flavor instant rice porridge. I love rice porridge and reading the label, it looked so promising. VIFON makes some great products, so I gave it a try. Aagh!!! This stuff is the worst! I gave it a half star only because it’s in stores. There must other uses for it.

It tasted like paste. I wanted to say more…maybe not.
